The "Honeymoon Walk" (retracing Edward and Alice's coastal path walk in 1893 from Shanklin to Ventnor) was postponed last year, due to foul weather. So it took place this year on Sunday 14th September. To see some photos of this event, CLICK HERE. {Contains large files, so not recommended for viewing on a dial-up connection.}

Not a great deal of Elgar at the Proms this year, but the webmaster and his lady did hear some at Proms 11, 12 (25th July) and 14 (26th).

On the afternoon of the 25th we heard the two Elgar organ sonatas, expertly played by David Titterton. The second is an arrangement by Elgar's friend Ivor Atkins, of the Severn Suite, originally written by Elgar for brass band. Frankly, the first sonata is much the better piece of the two. Unfortunately, the mutation and mixture stops on the splendid Willis/Harrison/Manders organ (above) were little in evidence. |
The evening concerts of the 25th and 26th each included pieces by the three famous composers who died in 1934; Elgar, Delius and Holst. Above, the hall expectantly awaiting Elgar's Overture Cockaigne. The concert on the 26th included a rousing performance of Elgar's Enigma Variations. |
